Rhetorical Precis 3/16/16

In Jon Russell’s informative article “Tim Cook Says Apple won’t Create Universal iPhone Backdoor for FBI” (2/17/16), he claims that Cook denied to create the so called backdoor for the FBI usage because it would be a threat to his customers. Russell first states the problem and his position on the actions that Cook took by explaining how the actions that the government is taking against Apple's customer; he then defends his position with the All Writs Act which added Apple's response legitimate; and to conclude he support with other sources such as John Kelley who use to work with Apple. His purpose is to support Cook in order to make his point a well thought out opinion or argument. He seems to have a liberal audience in mind because targets not only apple customers but also other phone companies.

OP-ED 2/28/16

Summary:
In "Seeking iPhone Data, Through the Front Door" by William J. Bratton and John J. Miller, they make there opinion on the recent topic of the FBI asking Apple to create a backdoor to help them in  the recent terrorist attack, back in December. They claim that Apple should help the FBI by producing the backdoor because there could be evidence on the terrorist phone that cant be seen without that access. They also claim that with using this backdoor there would be many lives saved.

Analysis:
Bratton and Miller give a lot of background information on why and how the backdoor would be very helpful for the government/ FBI, this is important because it sets the contexts and help prepare the audience for the strong argument that they have. They inform the reader that Apple already had something similar in the past that was changed in 2014, which was used to access consumers information for situations like the ones there in now. The only thing that is keeping Apple from producing this backdoor is because its easy access for the terrorist and hackers. Which Bratton and Miller this its just and excuse to keep information away from the government.
Their purpose is to give other side pro backdoor argument and not side with Apple. Because the argument could have easily be made pro Apple considering that Apple is trying to prevent many other problems. Yet, its to be determined to see if the government could force Apple to create such product.

Argument Essay 2/21/16

In Walden and Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau he starts off by giving he thoughts on what life should be like. He describes a “simple” way of living. He explains how some materials are not needed and how people don't know how to appreciate the beauty of mother nature and the little things that life gives. Thoreau's ideas can really tie into today's world because now in days many pay attention to things such as materials, money, and many unnecessary objects.
Today people live there lives around things like social media, cell phones, and popularity. “ An honest man has hardly need to count more than his ten fingers, or in extreme cases he may add his ten toes” (Thoreau 81). Thoreau's idea of an honest many really makes the reader think about what we now live like where materials are everything. If someone has more it makes them “rich” and if not “poor”. That's where simple living comes in because if we would live simply things like robbery and violence goes down. “Simple” living really brings out the truth of what life is or what it could be.

He also brings up how time should be appreciated. In today world we don't really live in the present but in the future. “ I drink at it, but while I drink I see the sandy bottom and detect how shallow it is” (Thoreau 87). Thoreau implied that people take time for granted. And how we should live in the present in contrast to today's world where we live in the future. Since many always strive for better futures. We should better our present to better our future. That is why Thoreau's “simple” way of living should be emphasized in today's world.

"VA Governor Proposes Plan for Free, Long-Lasting Birth Control"

In "VA Governor Proposes Plan for Free, Long- Lasting Birth Control" by the Feminist Majority foundation it talks about how Virginia passed a program that will provide women with free birth control. There would be no requirements to this program all women will be provided with free birth-control, intrauterine devices and skin implants.

The Feminist Majority foundation makes it clear that teen pregnancy has been a problem in recent years. As many other states Virginia finally made it clear that they will provide women with free Birth control opportunities and there goal for this is to give all women equal opportunities to have the resources to protect them selves from unwanted pregnancy's. Seeing how much impact these programs are they make readers think about  how men always had the opportunity to "birth-control" (condoms for free) way before women were provided with free birth control. This really shows how men have always be provided with choices and not till the 21st century have women gained these choices.

"China is Said to Force Closing of Women's Legal Aid Center"

In the article “China is Said to Force Closing of Women's Legal Aid Center” by Didi Kirsten Tatlow it explains how Chinese authorities have shut down as of February 1,2016 a Women's Aid center in Beihing. This center would help women with legal situations such as child support, divorces, and property owner ship. The reason for why they are closing the Aid Center is still not known, but its quite ironic because China just recently passed a law for gender equality and women aid.

Tatlow gives a lot of background information on the Women Aid Center form how is started and where is was first located, this is important because it sets the context and the history of such a big organization that is now being closed for no given reason. A former women activist put the word out that it was being closed down for oppression. This causing a cause and effect reflection on the article because just as women were gaining more “control” they, being the government see it as a threat and just decide to take there resources away. Which is quite ironic because in September of last year the Chinese government established “ a white paper tittles “ Gender Equality and Women's Development in China” and there for with the forced closure of the Women's Legal Aid Center taking away the rights that were directly established for them. There really is no loop whole here or justification to why these resources are being taken away from the women.

"Anger: An American History" Rhetorical Precis

In Schiff's nonfiction Anger: An American History (Dec 18,2015), she emphasizes that America has grow in the industry and world wide but as it grew a lot of bad cam with it. The author first introduced America as a growing country and all the laws that helped shape America by describing the establishment of the country and listing acts and laws that were established; she then emphasized how the Quakers were compared to vicious animals with a direct comparison; and to conclude she identifies that there is no justification in how the homes of many people are being destroyed with and explanation on how holidays are not remembered as the day of a war but are enjoyed. Her purpose is to give the other side of a good story in order to show that there is two sides to the growth of America. She seems to have a liberal audience in mind because she took a general view of the both sides of the growth of America.
